Since opening its doors in 2003, Insite has been a safe, health-focused place where people inject drugs and connect to health care services – from primary care to treat disease and infection, to addiction counselling and treatment, to housing and community supports.
Insite is North America’s first legal supervised injection site. The BC Ministry of Health Services provides operational funding for Insite through Vancouver Coastal Health, which operates the facility in conjunction with PHS Community Services Society.
Insite operates on a harm-reduction model, which means it strives to decrease the adverse health, social and economic consequences of drug use without requiring abstinence from drug use.
The students spent the first 30 minutes of class researching what Insite is and the benefits and drawbacks of it.
Next we watched a 10 minute video on Insite....which was produced by the Coastal Health Authority. Once we did this, I finally opened the floor up the classes opinions on the subject. Fascinating discussion. I was very impressed with the tone of the discussion as well the understanding behind the comments.
Your assignment is to write a page response to whether you support Insite. Give reasons for your decision.

A natural disaster is a consequence when a natural hazard (e.g., volcanic eruption or earthquake) affects humans. Human vulnerability, caused by the lack of appropriate emergency management, leads to financial, environmental, or human impact. The resulting loss depends on the capacity of the population to support or resist the disaster: their resilience. This understanding is concentrated in the formulation: "disasters occur when hazards meet vulnerability".

Today we focused on Natural Disasters. Students were given the choice of working with a partner and investigate one natural disaster in detail. The choices the students had were: Earthquake, Volcano. Hurricane, Tsunami, or Tornado. Students were given the criteria for the research project and given this class as well as the next two classes in the computer lab to finish this project.
